British technology companies attracted a record £14 billion in venture capital investment during the first quarter of 2026, defying global economic headwinds and cementing London's position as Europe's leading tech hub. The figures, published by Dealroom and the Mayor of London's office, show that artificial intelligence, fintech and climate technology were the dominant sectors drawing investment, with several British AI start-ups closing significant funding rounds that valued them in the billions. Industry leaders said the UK's access to world-class universities, a deep talent pool and a supportive regulatory environment for innovation continued to attract international investors. However, some founders warned that the cost of office space in London and competition for senior technical talent remained significant challenges. The government has promised further measures to support the domestic technology sector in the upcoming Spring Statement.
